Bringing the Arts to Life!
Paws Along the River is a public art project planned through the joint efforts of the Arts Council of Northeastern Kentucky, Inc., and the Pet Betterment Fund, a Fund of the Foundation for the Tri State Community.

We are inviting the Ashland community and our neighbors to come together to introduce brightly and whimsically decorated dogs and cats to locate on Ashland's downtown streets. This public art project will involve 30 to 40 dogs and cats on the streets of Ashland, decorated by area artists and sponsored by area businesses and individuals of Ashland.

We have chosen a standing Lab that is approximately 30" tall and 36" long, the sitting cat is 28" tall and 18" wide. Paws will promote Ashland as a river community that supports the arts and has a lot of love and respect for our companion animals.

In the summer of 2007, from April to September, we will have these animals on the street as a greeting for the local citizens and tourists that will be visiting our businesses and area festivals. We are planning an event to celebrate the "adoption" of the cats and dogs, and a Paws Party to auction the animals at summer's end.

Artists are needed to decorate the animals. We will be accepting artist proposals through the summer. The proposals will be juried by our member artists, and then the chosen ones will go into the Paws Portfolio for selection by our sponsors.

Sponsors are needed to adopt our plain dogs and cats. There are three levels of sponsorship: Paws Patron ($5,000), Paws Best Friend ($3,000), and Paws Good Buddy ($1,000). Sponsors at all levels will select a design from the portfolio and work with the artists on the final plan. Sponsors will be acknowledged with a plaque on the animal and will be listed in the Paws catalogue. Additional details are listed on the sponsorship form. Proceeds from this project will benefit the Arts Council of Northeastern Kentucky.

The Arts Council of Northeastern Kentucky receives funding and support from the Kentucky Arts Council.
